I got back late last night from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The trip overall was pretty good. I feel like we are so close in a few events that will soon come together. I ended up finishing 4th in the meet and scoring 7791. I feel like I should have and could have won the competition, but the reality is that I didn't. The weather was hot and very humid (no big surprise). The starting field was 16 athletes all in one flight which made the days take a little longer.
100m - 11.40 - I was in the first heat and before the gun even fired, the athlete in the lane inside me was already a full step out of the blocks. The official failed to call a false start and the full race was run. I crossed the line and immediately went back to the starting line to see what was going on and why no false start had been issued. Apparently none of the officials at the start saw it (i'll put the video online soon and you can see just how obvious). An official at the finish line however did see it and issued a false start. We were given 10 minutes before running again. I was excited, but unfortunately we had a nice headwind on the second run and I managed only a .02 improvement.
Long Jump - 7.26m (23'9") - After I big first attempt foul, I jumped 7.26m in round 2 just touching the board and finished with 7.20m in round 3. I was pleased with the consistency of this event although I wanted that first jump fair.
Shot Put - 14.29m (46' 11") - Failed to stay closed and rushed out of the back.
High Jump - 2.06m (6'9") - Felt like I may have been rushing a little out of the back in my approach. I felt like I "had the legs" to jump pretty high, but settled for 2.06m
400m - 50.94 - I really feel like I learned a lot from this race. I finally got out and ran the first 200m very relaxed and easy. I started to get on the gas a little too early (at 200m instead of 250m). I had a pretty sizable lead at 300m but tightened up pretty good. I'm excited to run this race again!
110mHH - 14.73 - This was a solid race for me into a slight headwind. I feel like I executed pretty well and am ready to run faster.
Discus - 44.44m (145' 9") - Opened the competition with a sector foul and a measly 37m second throw. Had to relax and get a good 3rd round throw. I was happy with the recovery given the place I put myself in after 2 throws.
Pole Vault - 4.70m (15'5") - I was disappointed with this event, especially given the fact that I jumped 5.05m my last time out. I had huge height on every bar, but wasn't executing my takeoff very well and wasn't getting penetration into the pit.
Javelin - 57.76m (189' 6") - Never really "hit the tip" on any of my throws.
1500m - 4:52.52 - Ran the race I wanted through 1100m but I couldn't make the legs go with a lap to go.
