certainly was an experience. this is going to be brief as I'm smoked and ready for bed. The quick recap, Harlan and I finished 5-6 and scored pretty poorly. The atmosphere was pretty amazing! Tons of energy! Unfortunately, A LOT of it was in the form of loud "Boo's" towards any and all US athletes.
Crushed a hurdle literally 3 minutes before going into the call room. It ripped my knee open pretty good. So good that I had 4 staples put in after I got back to the village. I actually ran a pretty good hurdle race up to number 10. I'll have to see the replay, but the athlete in the lane next to me hit his hurdle and I think I clipped it as it was coming up. Anyway, almost went down and cost me significant time.
The other excitement came in the vault. During warm-ups, I broke my pole that I usually start the competition with and use for the first couple of bars. I'm not sure exactly what hit what since it all happens pretty quickly, but my IT Band on my right leg felt like it was on fire!!! I didn't feel like it hindered my run too much, but losing that pole hurt as I was forced to adjust and it just didn't work out very well.
I'll leave it at that for now as I sit 5 floors up looking at the atrium of our apartment building in the village. Such a unique experience, it's just a shame that my events across the board were so incredibly "average"!
