Decathlon cut short by fouls and a nagging ankle

This is one of the hardest recaps I've ever had to write. After a relaxed run in the 100 meters, I was eliminated from any contention in the meet as a result of three consecutive fouls in the long jump. I got myself in a whole by fouling my opening attempt. I made significant step adjustments to avoid the same on the second, but still managed the slightest of fouls. I had no other option than to back up another foot, execute and go for broke on my final attempt. It wasn't meant to be as again I fouled by just a touch. Everything stopped in that moment.
I wanted to continue to compete so I moved through the shot put managing 14.57 before getting to the high jump. This was kind of my deal breaker going in. It was the only event that really bothered my ankle and I had only jumped 1.94m and 1.98m since surgery. I felt like I had the "pop" in warm-ups and as long as I hit a good takeoff, the pain was not unbearable. The stadium was getting pretty full at this point with upwards of 15,000 just watching the decathlon high jump. I tried my best to still have fun and compete given the circumstances. I opened at 1.90m (6' 3") and had first attemp clearences at 1.96, 2.02, 2.05, and 2.08 (6' 9 3/4). My second attempt at 2.11 my takeoff foot hit a section of track with a lot of loose pieces and my foot slide and ankle turned before the spikes caught on the track. This was pretty much the end of it as we determined the cost/benefit of continuing simply wasn't worth it. I didn't want to do any further damage to my ankle. After spending some time at home, I'll be getting another evaluation on my ankle to see whats going on. It could just need rest, something it really hasn't had since surgery.
I'm sorry for not "getting it done" here! Part of me feels like I let a lot of people down. Thanks again for the overwhelming support I've received over the past couple of weeks.
It won't end like this.... I will be back!

God Bless
chris
